Shinkansen bound for Kyoto

Oh if only our trains were as efficient as the Japanese bullet trains. The guards are utterly focused on getting the trains out on time and they are on time by the second.

Look at it with it's huge pointy nose. And see the platform? There's even a right place to stand so that you get on your designated carriage. No messing!

And lets hear it for the pink cleaning ladies, one at the front of every queue. They jump on and do a 5 minute blitz and twizzle the seats around to face the right direction (genius) and then they all disappear into a tiny door half way down the stairs under the platform.

And we're off!

Do you know the guards bow to the carriage before coming to check the tickets...and the tea trolley lady too. How dignified.

And look what we saw out of the window towering above the clouds. Natalie was on Fuji watch. I might have missed it. I wasn't looking high enough up! It's in the clouds.

I can't believe I just wrote a blog post about a train! it was a pretty special one though and it Kyoto bound, taking us on the next leg of our Japanese adventure. The best is yet to come!

  2. Contrasting this description with my many dubious experiences on the Long Island Railroad..... oh dear!!! What a mess other countries must seem if you grow up in Japan.
